Mrs. Williams phoned that Betty had operation (1st June) quite serious.

Phoned Mrs. Davis & Elsa G. today. Elsa going on trip to Colorado Sat.

Last meeting of Guild today but did not go, not up to it. Getting along fairly well with hearing aid.

Bob pd me 6.50 today.

John at practice game - home early.

John went to Oldtimers game at school field.

May 12, 1955 (Thursday)

Marjory went with me to Beltone Company & tried hearing aid, best I have tries. Pd. $75.00 & will get it Tues. May 17th. Do hope it will be OK. I pd. $75.00 down.

Had lunch at Holliday Cafeteria with Marj. No one knows how good & kind Marjorie is to me & I am so grateful. Have been so discouraged lately as I miss so much of things & people I love so dearly.

Had Margaret.

Margaret here. Mary paid me $15.00

Called Dr. Bussard about H. aid & he is well satisfied with his, has had it 10 yrs. Autvox aid. Says he uses $13.00 mo. for batteries.

May 8, 1955 (Sunday)

Mothers Day.

John & I took flowers out to mother's grave. Went to church at 10:30 - Mary sat with us. Ruth surprised me, was at church with Woody. Had dinner at Joys, very good. Afterwards drove to pretty lake & back home. All of families here in afternoon. Got glove from Mary & Ruth. [laury?] from Fred & Else frying pan (Sunbeam) from John. Also gave me 50.00 towards hearing aid. Had Andersons stay for coffee & ham sandwiches. Swell day.

May 5, 1955 (Thursday)

Did not have Margaret as I went to spring luncheon at church. Nice program by Bethany church.

Phoned Sib today. John practice ballgame.

Walked over to see Mrs. Chamberlain about hearing aid. Talks favorable about it. Had a nice visit.

Bob paid 6.50 & off for Chicago for day.

April 30, 1955 (Saturday)

Got Government ck.

Ruth, Woody, & Cathy come in eve.

John gone to banquet of bowling & party at Caty's.

Settled discrepancy with Bob. Gave him back $6.50

Called Elsa Woodcock over phone. Jim still at hospital.

April 23, 1955 (Saturday)

John painted screens & worked in yard all afternoon.

Took me groc. shopping A&P. $11.00

Medicines have not helped much. Just would get over dizzy spells & hear better.

Throat is bad.

Mary & Fred brought laundry but did not stay long. Ruth called about birthday. Told her not to have supper, me not good.

April 22, 1955 (Friday)

Mary took me for appt at Dr. Crawford. Said after examining that chest was OK. Throat hurts me so much. He prescribed throches [troches]. Got them at Rex Pharmacy - Portage ave $1.35

Over to Mrs. Williams about hour.

April 16, 1955 (Saturday)

Mary took me to Dr. Crawford for check up. Blood sugar test seems OK, found nothing radical wrong. Blood pressure OK. Called it Deteriation [deterioration?]. Prescribed 2 medicines & gave me apy2[?] shot in arm.

John worked in yard all afternoon, planted grass seed & Charlotte Armstrong rosebush.

Prescription was $14.00 for bottle.

April 15, 1955 (Friday)

Went to Lab at 8:15. Charge $3.00. Three nurses took a stab until the last was successful.

John took me doon. [down? home?]

Have a bronchial cough, first cough this winter.

My hearing is awful,

Marjory phoned this morning.

Ironed most of morning.

Alline here until 2 PM. Does such nice cleaning. Pd her $6.50.

John bowled - home late.

Marjorie phoned.

Mary took her 3 girls - chas [plus?]  Dauhe[?] & Tom & Teddy to Chicago.

10:45 church then to Fred's at 1 PM for dinner. Also had supper & home about 9:45 PM.

Marj & I & Mrs. Barber out to visit Auntie Code[?] in afternoon. Seemed quite cheerful.

Fred gave me Valentine card & $100 check. Such a surprise.
